I was fortunate enough to spend several days in Paris recently,  this was before all the disturbances began.  This was not my first trip there and I felt reasonably comfortable trying to navigate leaving the airport and buying tickets for the subway system.  A helpful gentleman working at the airport directed me to another type of ticket.  This was good for 1 week and valid on subway, buses and trains throughout Paris.  Would reasonably get me from the airport to our hotel and everywhere we wanted to tour.

So we happily purchased the tickets and proceeded to board the next train bound for the city center towards our hotel.  About halfway there the train stopped and they announced something in French which I could not understand.  Then required all of the passengers to disembark.  That train left with a number of announcements happening.  Another train sitting on the next track…

In the same weekend as the first visit in Munich, we had the chance to exit the city and travel via S-band to Bavaria countryside – Prien am Chiemsee. The lake views are extremely relaxing and a perfect place to visit when one needs to unwinde and restore the love for nature with completely chill walks.

Voltaire in Strasbourg

In May, 1753, Voltaire arrived in Strasbourg after a row with Frederick II, the King of Prussia, whom he had spent the previous three years in his service. In a letter to his niece, Madame Denis, Voltaire exclaimed, “Je suis retirer” (I can now rest). Voltaire had a great affection for this enchanting city in the Alsace region of eastern France which dates back to the Moyen Age.

Voltaire loved Strasbourg and spent a year here reflecting, rejuvenating and reveling in the culture and beauty that Strasbourg can bring. During this time, he wrote Madame Denis, over one hundred letters detailing his life.

Memphis and the Open Air Museum: Travel Thoughts 4

Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist's avatarReflections and Nightmares- Irene A Waters (writer and memoirist)

We headed to Memphis – a town founded 3,300 years before Christ by King Meni who united Upper and Lower Egypt. That length of time is just mind boggling to me as it is time I can get my head around yet it is more than the time we have had after Christ. A long time. It was the first capital of Egypt. It originally sat at the head of the Nile but as the river moved over time so did the capital. Memphis was at one time a bustling (to my mind it still was), cosmopolitan city with temples (Temple of Ptah), settlements, markets, and palaces. In the present there was lots to absorb being just off the plane. I can’t remember being in a city where horse and cart and camels travel on the roads (and they are hectic) alongside cars, buses, trucks and motor cycles.

Finally we…

Oklahoma hiking: The Mountain Trail, Robbers Cave State Park

Golden hour light on the Mountain Trail at Robbers Cave State Park, Okla.

Once my fall races ended in November, I did a major re-think about how I scheduled my time. It seemed I was devoting six days a week for training toward some sort of goal, be it a race or some arbitrary strength metric that usually meant I was sticking close to home every week so I wouldn’t miss a workout.

That meant that I was crowding out some of the thing I loved. It made weekend road trips nonexistent. Any hiking had to be within minutes from my house. It’s very limiting, and it showed: For all of 2018, I only went on two trips outside my city to go hike or climb something. Those were awesome trips, but too few in number. It’s hard to get your outdoor fix when you’re tethered to a schedule that’s…

I’ve been in kuala lumpur for 4 days but i only had two active days exploring the city. The first day, I had cramps and stayed the whole day in my hotel room lying in bed. The 3rd day I was in a hostel and it was raining so heavily so I just hanged in the lobby working on my computer and watching the rain fall through the window. In between here is all I managed to visit in KL:

20181216_104411.jpgDAY 1

20181215_123229 I went back and did all the smelling on my last day in KL.

  • The plan was to start with Merdaka Square, but walking there I stumbled upon the Central Market, so I toured it first. The market has everything from clothes to food to souvenirs to electronics… My favorite thing about it is the soap stand. I love soap smells! so I had to walk by…

For those of you who know us, would also know that me and my husband worship coffee (and tea!). Coffee for us is not just a beverage. It is like that comfort zone where you want to curl up after a crappy day or perhaps like a tight hug by a loved one when you need it most, a feeling of familiarity that brings a smile on your face when you are homesick in a foreign land. Thus while we were settling down in a new land with occasional pangs of homesickness, the first thing on our weekend itinerary was visiting the Coffee Museum in Dubai.

Tucked away cosily in a quite lane of Al Fahidi, the heritage district of Dubai, Villa 44 is sure a coffee lovers pilgrimage. The Coffee Museum is part cafe, part shop, and part cultural experience.

Spread over two floors, this curated private museum includes…
