Day Trips from Ho Chi Minh city to Mekong River Delta and Cu Chi Tunnels

Keywords: travel, adventure, vietnam

We had a couple of individual days away from the city for these excursion and they were such eye-openers and a very different perspective on this region of Vietnam. With an early start one day and a late evening return to our hotel the other, we felt the trips were such a contrast to the other experiences we had on our stay in Ho Chi Minh and added such depth to our overall stay.

Vipassana meditation centers in Thailand that cater specifically to foreigners by holding meditation sessions and retreats only in English

Keywords: meditation, Retreats, Thailand

Since the 60s, many foreigners have trained at monasteries in Thailand and have become monks & permanent visitors. However, there are a few rules that should be observed when visiting a monastery:

  • Never sit with the soles of your feet facing a Buddha image or a Buddhist monk. It is considered ill-mannered to sit with them facing an object of respect.
  • Women should not touch a Buddhist monk. If a female wishes to make an offering to a monk, she should place it on a table and allow the monk to accept from there.
  • Do not climb on sacred objects and do not hug Buddha statues.
  • Do not take photographs of meditating monks as this obviously disturbs their practice.

Time Machine to Not-that-old History – Trip to Gunsan

Ola in Wonderland

Monday, 25.02.2019

I think that all the bus stations are never peaceful. Even at 7 am on Monday sleepy travellers are hurrying to their buses or are looking for a bit of rest on one of the seats in the main hall.

We were ones of them. With tickets in our hands, we walked bravely towards our bus. In about 2,5hours we will start our day in Gunsan.

Gunsan is a port town. At the end of the 19th century it started to serve as the main port to transport rice to Japan, and during the Japanese occupation, it was mainly inhabited by Japanese. That is the reason, why till this day there are many buildings in typical for that time Japanese architecture.

We reached our destination at a perfect time for morning coffee. Even before coming here we saw on Instagram a lot of fantastic cafes, but our legs…

StorYnia: Stories That Define

Whenever I feel lost, I would always go back to this hipster place where we used to hang in the north. I and my college sisters discovered this place sometime in 2014 when we were bonding after our long exams. Nothing beats the sound of the waves while having a bottle of beer together with your college friends. Just recently, I visited the place again to unwind and get some beach tan.

Right after I stepped out of the bus, I went to grab a beer because of my long week at work.

The vibe of this place would be appreciated by people who love to chill and relax. There are a lot of foreigners who also spend their vacation here.

What is this place?

A trip to Battambang

Adventurous Hermit

Note that ’bang’ is pronounced ‘bong’.

One of the best things about going to Battambang is getting there by boat. The boat leaves Siem Reap, travels briefly along the very dirty Siem Reap river, crosses the northern end of Tonle Sap – the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia, and then ambles along the Sangker River to Battambang.

Gliding through Tonle Sap is a glimpse into another world, where life is lived almost entirely on water. Life on the lake looks pretty good. I could live there in one of those cute floating houses – if I could bring myself to eat fish, or build a floating vegetable garden. JH and I debated floating garden designs as we travelled along.

Exploring my own backyard

Mambukal Resort is a government run mountain resort in the Philippines.

032

Mambukal, located at the foot of Mount Kanlaon, is situated in a 24 hectare area.

There are plenty of onsite activities, such as swimming and dipping pools, a climbing wall, zip line, canopy walk, butterfly garden, boating on the lagoon, and a day spa.

Vendors also sell flowers and plants from a roadside market.

One of the most popular features is the Mambukal Falls. A stream runs through rocky cliffs producing seven waterfalls. You will need to hire the services of a guide to take you up the track.

We only went to Mambukal for the day but you can stay there. Accommodation wise there are villas, cottages, lodges, dormitories, and camping sites.

Mambukal Resort is located in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
