Nashville, or More Lovingly Known as, NashVegas

Nashville, Tennessee, Travel, Trip

Haley's avatarHaley Meets World

I explored Nashville for the first time a few months ago for what turned out to be the best birthday trip ever! The situation started out a little stinky when, because of extenuating circumstances, I called my best friend stressed out and disappointed because I was going to have to cancel the trip. The conversation went a little something like this:

Me: “Hi, yeah I’m going to have to cancel my Nashville trip.”
BFF: “F*** that s***, I’m looking up flights right now.”

If you don’t have a solid, always-got-your-back, potty-mouthed best friend like that you need to get ya one.

Our girls’ trip ended up being a total blast. Which was to be expected because we both needed some serious best friend time, and we could be sitting in line at DPS and have the best time together. Aside from the great company, Nashville blew me away. Coolest city…

Ecuador: Galapagos Islands – Isla Isabela

Ecuador, Galapagos Islands

reflectionstraveletc's avatarReflections

Upon landing at Las Tintoreras near Isla Isabela; we were greeted by a marine iguana resting on the rock catching the first rays of the sun just after 6.30 am. There wer many marine iguanas clinging to the rocks and they varied in size from about 10 cm to over a metre including length of their tail. The recommended 2 metre rule from the wildlife was sometimes a challenging one to follow when they would be suddenly be on the path in front of you. We also came across a group of sea lions who were taking advantage of the shade in the mangroves to have a rest.

Low tide and the churning sands made the snorkelling off Puerto Villamil a larger challenge than anticipated. The image that I had in my head of walking off the beach till the depth that I could just push-off and snorkel did not…

A trip to Battambang

Note that ’bang’ is pronounced ‘bong’.

One of the best things about going to Battambang is getting there by boat. The boat leaves Siem Reap, travels briefly along the very dirty Siem Reap river, crosses the northern end of Tonle Sap – the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia, and then ambles along the Sangker River to Battambang.

Gliding through Tonle Sap is a glimpse into another world, where life is lived almost entirely on water. Life on the lake looks pretty good. I could live there in one of those cute floating houses – if I could bring myself to eat fish, or build a floating vegetable garden. JH and I debated floating garden designs as we travelled along.

Once we exited Tonle Sap and entered the Sangker River, people became poorer. In some places, whole families were living under a piece of…

SWITZERLAND | When I’m choosing a ski tour I always better play safe. I like to choose places that I already know a little bit, because if there is no trace in the snow, I would be lost even with my GPS. To avoid that we decided to go to the Telschehorn, which is next to the Brudelhorn.

It was freezing cold like last time and so we decided to skip the summit and skied down.

Where: Park your car next to the excellent restaurant Mühle, then walk up the forest. The surroundings after the forest are simply breathtaking.

What: Skitouring, easy, nothing above 30 degrees, even feasible with bad conditions.

Peru – on the train across the High Plains

Opher's avatarOpher's World

This must rate as the best train journey in the world!. The train was all old polished wood and brass.

We’d just got started and this shaman, all dressed in a wollen costume unexpectedly burst out of the back and rampaged up and down the aisle

The shaman, donned a different costume and proceeded to perform shamanic rites at the back of the train. It seemed to consist of prayers to gods in the sky, beseeching and the burning of coca leaves. I’m not sure if it worked but we got there safely.

Then we were regaled to amazing Peruvian musicianship and dancing with the most glorious costumes.

You could look out of the window, or hang off the back of the train (Health and Safety was nonexistent) and see the most amazing scenery.

What an amazing journey!
